ORTON-GILLINGHAM

Confirmed by contemporary neuroscience and endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association as an effective treatment for Dyslexia and other language-learning differences, Orton-Gillingham is a powerful approach to teaching reading and spelling that uses instruction that is individualized, multisensory, sequential, incremental, cumulative, phonics-based and explicit.

Emotionally Sound

Reading and writing are intellectual and emotional endeavors. Repeated reading failure can have a devastating effect on our self-esteem and life path. Each multisensory lesson is carefully crafted to teach language-literacy skills and foster self-esteem in a safe environment. Individualized lessons are designed for the success of every learner, every session.

INTEGRATED INSTRUCTION

Speaking and listening are intimately related to reading and writing. The most effective treatment of dyslexia and related language-based learning differences comes from a specialist equipped to simultaneously assess and teach oral and written language. Stacey’s specialization in both fields of speech language pathology and reading allows her to create holistic lessons that help students improve their overall communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

DYSLEXIA affects up to 1 in 5 people, but the experience of dyslexia isn't always the same. This difficulty in processing language exists along a spectrum -- one that doesn't necessarily fit with labels like "normal" and "defective."

Identify the signs of communication disorders. Many parents aren't aware of the early signs of speech, language and hearing disorders, yet early detection and treatment can improve quality of life.

TESTIMONIALS

“Ms. Stacey is absolutely AMAZING! She is helping both of our dyslexic children learn to cope with their special way of learning. Ms. Stacey is not only extremely knowledgeable in how to help children with a variety of learning issues, she is wonderfully kind, patient and articulate. My children look forward to working with Ms. Stacey every time she comes. She incorporates fun ways of learning (songs, stories, books) that make my children laugh, learn and feel special. It is amazing the time and effort Ms. Stacey dedicates to making sure each child has a personalized program to help them advance. It is clear that through continued education that Ms. Stacey has procured a wonderful set of ideals and expertise on teaching children who are otherwise cast aside in the public school system. I am truly thankful for Ms. Stacey’s gift with children and with helping me as a parent understand what is going on to help them learn better. Ms. Stacey is 100% committed to helping me advocate and be a liaison with the special education team at the school. Her understanding of the school system and the developmental process of children have really helped relieve my anxieties about my children’s success as they grow older. I have no doubt that with Ms. Stacey’s thorough training, dedication, kindness and respect for individuals with language based learning disabilities, my children will thrive in life. For that I’m am forever grateful.“

Stacey has an innate understanding for the foundations of speech-language pathology and utilizes assessments to create intervention plans for the prevention and habilitation of language-based learning disorders. Her dynamic evaluation, integration, and knowledge for language was an asset to each multidisciplinary team we shared. As a school psychologist, I valued Stacey’s collaboration, innovative thinking, and child-centered framework; her commitment to data-based decision making enabled her to better understand behavior, learning deficits, and the integral import of language.”

“Miss Stacey has been a Godsend! When she started working with my son, both he and I were incredibly frustrated. As a homeschool mom, I did not know what to do for him next as we reviewed letters and sounds day after day and he still would not get them right -- and he was in the beginning of third grade! It was like he had reached a wall and there was no going over, under, or around it. Stacey has not only helped my son, but she has helped ME!  I am so grateful for her willingness to collaborate with me as his teacher. She is continually teaching me new things and in each session she includes me and provides me with the necessary materials that I need to continuing teaching him at home. Sometimes I think I get more out of the tutoring sessions than my son. I truly feel like we are partnering together to teach him and that she respects and supports our family's decision to homeschool our son, despite his learning difficulties. Stacey is not only good at actually teaching reading, but she truly shows interest in her students, their interests, and their personalities. I know my son senses and appreciates this. I could not recommend her enough. She is awesome!”
